What do you do at BCC?
In my role as ‘Pastor’ of Balham Community Church, my main function is to equip and release the members of the church community for the work God has called us to. This will include teaching, training and empowering members and leaders of the church to function in the areas God has called them to influence the world they live in. I am responsible to make sure the church community is constantly aware of the vision God has called us to individually and corporately, and to live our lives as a missionary people. To this end, spending time with God is an essential part of my role and function @ BCC.
How did you come to be at BCC?
Long story! In a nutshell, God got me here! I am one of those ‘reluctant’ leaders that catch God’s attention, and that is what happened in 1992 when God clearly called me to Balham. I lived in the south west of England for nearly 12 years, studying, teaching and then working with Scripture Union as a Regional Secondary Schools Worker. Through a direct and miraculous intervention by God, I accepted the invitation to come to London to lead church here in Balham.
How did you become a Christian?
I was brought up in a church attending family, which created a hunger in my heart for more of God. It was not until I was at university that I met a Spirit filled believer who helped me to begin my personal journey with God. I was baptised as an adult over 20 years ago and have never regretted the decision I made to give my whole life to serve God. My early experience of being in a Spirit filled church was awesome and exciting...never a dull moment! The teaching from the Word was excellent, and the experiences with the Holy Spirit adventurous! I witnessed many healings and people being transformed by the power of God’s love.
If you could have a one to one with anyone regardless of cost or time who would it be & why?
What an impossible question to answer! Apart from Jesus, I would probably want to question endlessly one of the three disciples closest to Jesus, probably John.
What are some of the passions of your life?
Deep, meaningful, significant relationships that will cause the world to want Jesus.
What would yu have written on your gravestone?
Another difficult question to answer fully! Either something clever like ‘he died still climbing’ or something about how what I did in my life affected peoples’ eternal destiny and love for Jesus.

What's your favourite book of the Bible & why?
Probably Acts, because of the emergence of the first glimpse of the Spirit filled church that turned the world upside down. Fantastic stories of the church roller coasting with the Holy Spirit and the wonderful growth of radical Disciples of Christ. Probably also because that is what I want the church to experience today.
What's your favourite food?
At the moment Thai cuisine.
Who has been one of the most influential people in your life?
A number of different people have been significant at important times of my life: Darrell, who showed me something of the glory of a Spirit filled life; Steve who helped me understand so much that I did not know about God’s kingdom; Ken who has pointed me time and time again to pursue Jesus; Gunter who has given me a deeper hunger for God and His Word and the desire to be holy; Father Nicholas who has inspired my desire for a deeper spirituality; Sue who has been patient with me, has taught me so much about myself and who has been a loyal and faithful companion; my children who constantly amaze me and keep me humble.
Is there anything else we should know about you?
No!!!
